FILMS X JENI’S: Sitting in Bars with Cake
I made the colossal mistake of choosing this movie on a night where I was looking for a light-hearted, rom-com type.
THIS IS NOT THAT TYPE.
I mean it starts that way - but the plot twist changes its course very quickly.
That being said, I honestly loved.
The premise: two 24 year-old best friends living as roommates in L.A. One is the life of the party, the other is an introverted baker. In order to meet guys, they bake cakes and bring them to bars every week.
Fun and flirty, right??
So right!
And then so wrong.
Enter the plot twist.
In an effort to not give it all away, I’ll sum it up by saying this is a movie (based off of a true story) about love and the deepest bonds of friendship. I’d recommend watching it with a slice of cake and tissues nearby.
Would I watch it again? Yeah but when I want to cry and with friends.
Tear level: longest I’ve cried in a long time.
Watch when: you want to be reminded how beautiful friendships can be (and cry).
DO NOT watch when: you miss your friends or are looking for something upbeat and cheerful.
Soundtrack/score: honestly don’t remember.
If this movie were emojis: 👩🏼🤝👩🏾🍰🪩🍹😭💕

The Jeni’s Pairing
Jeni’s has actually had quite a few cake-inspired flavors over the years, so the real question is: which ones? Not enough to account for all 50 cakes made in the film, so I’m going to narrow it down to a triple scoop in a waffle cone. We’ll start with Buttercream Birthday Cake, because the first cake is for one of the main character’s birthdays. Next, we’ll add Pineapple Upside Down Cake because it’s a little zany like all the cake flavors we see (she also makes a pineapple-inspired cake) - plus it’s giving plot twist. Lastly, we’re scooping Blackout Chocolate Cake because that aforementioned main character also requested chocolate for her next birthday - very important.
